The popular anime series “One Piece” is set to undergo a complete remake from episode 1, titled “The One Piece,” produced by Wit Studio and slated for release on the Netflix platform.
New Remake “The One Piece” by Wit Studio Raises Alarm Among Original Series Director and Fans
Hiromi Ishigami, the animation director of One Piece Film Red, has expressed concerns about the impact of Netflix’s upcoming One Piece anime remake on the original series. Recently, he took to Twitter to share his sadness at what seems to be a decline in the value of the original story due to the new project.
Besides, he stated that “There is a remake of the anime currently streaming, and the content is quite different. I wonder what will happen with this? I feel a bit sad as the value of the anime we have built up until now seems to be diminishing…”
However, after receiving support from international fans, Ishigami became more open-minded about the remake, saying, “I am very happy when many people from overseas tell me, ‘No, that’s not true!!!’ to counter my narrow-minded thinking.”
Concerns of Fans and Industry Experts about Netflix’s Remake
Hiromi Ishigami is not alone in his concerns, as many fans and industry experts worry that Netflix’s remake could disrupt the main series and spark debates over which version is superior.
There is also concern that the remake could lead to a shortage of animation artists for the ongoing series. The first part of the anime, “East Blue,” has been remade multiple times, raising doubts about the necessity of another version.
WIT Studio Faces Balancing Act with New One Piece Anime
WIT Studio, responsible for the new version of the One Piece anime, will face challenges in balancing this project with other popular anime series. The studio’s CEO is actively seeking animators globally, reflecting current staffing difficulties in the industry.
Terumi Nishii, animation director of “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” criticizes the current trend of online recruitment, believing it could compromise animation quality and potentially lead to the industry’s decline in the coming years.
Meanwhile, the original “One Piece” anime continues to be available on Crunchyroll, depicting Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to become the Pirate King and search for the legendary One Piece treasure. Furthermore, the series is praised for the perseverance and ambition of its main characters as they navigate the challenging seas of the Grand Line.
