Remedy Entertainment, the acclaimed studio behind the mind-bending supernatural action of Control, has pulled back the curtain on their upcoming cooperative spin-off, ‘Codename Condor’. This new venture promises to delve deeper into the enigmatic world of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) while offering a distinct multiplayer experience.
Not Your Typical Free-to-Play
In a departure from the free-to-play trend, Remedy has clarified that Codename Condor will have a lower initial price point than standard AAA titles. This is intended to be more accessible, with the studio aiming to generate sustained revenue through post-launch additions. These additions will likely encompass a mix of expansions, downloadable content, and potentially microtransactions – a model that could prove controversial but is not uncommon in the modern gaming landscape.
Building on the Foundations of Control
Codename Condor aims to deliver a compelling co-op experience set directly within the shared Remedy Connected Universe. Currently in the pre-production stages, it will be built upon their proprietary Northlight engine (also used for Alan Wake 2). With a development budget reportedly around $27 million, the spin-off is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Delving Deeper into the Oldest House
The narrative of Codename Condor picks up after the events of the original Control. Players will be tasked with venturing back into the Oldest House, the ever-shifting headquarters of the FBC. Within its depths, they’ll confront dangerous supernatural forces that have breached the boundaries of reality. This foray into the unknown promises to shed new light on the mysterious Bureau and the strange phenomena it investigates.
The Future of the Remedy Connected Universe
The reveal of Codename Condor highlights Remedy’s growing ambition to create a rich, interconnected gaming universe. The studio recently acquired full ownership of the Control IP, paving the way for greater control (pun intended!) over the franchise’s future. Alongside Condor, Remedy is committed to releasing new content with more regularity across both the Control and Alan Wake franchises. This includes two planned DLCs for Alan Wake 2 titled ‘Night Springs’ and ‘The Lake House’, aimed for a 2024 release.
An Exciting Evolution for Control
While details remain somewhat scarce, Codename Condor signifies an intriguing evolution for the Control series. Its focus on cooperative gameplay and its more accessible pricing structure could attract a wider audience. Fans of the original Control are sure to be eager to uncover the secrets lurking within the Oldest House once again.
