In a recent lower bracket match at MSI 2024, G2 Esports effortlessly swept Top Esports 3-0. Notably, the LPL runner-up displayed minimal resistance throughout the entire series against the LEC representatives. Witnessing such a one-sided affair left many viewers bewildered, especially considering TES’s competitive showing against Gen.G in the group stage. Regardless, G2’s victory was widely anticipated, with the only surprise being the margin of victory.
Ironically, G2’s win has positioned T1 on the precipice of achieving historical feats. On this undeniably challenging road, Team Liquid stands as the first hurdle T1 must overcome.
Shutting Down the “Golden Road” for Four Teams
Across the regions represented by the remaining four teams at MSI 2024 (excluding T1), each squad is arguably the strongest in their respective league. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the upcoming Summer Splits are likely to mirror the results of the Spring Splits. Consequently, all four teams theoretically stand on the cusp of their own “Golden Roads.” Having already secured their first domestic championship of 2024, MSI presents an opportunity to claim their second title.
Throughout their journey, T1 will face all four champions from the major regions. By clinching the MSI title this year, T1 would effectively dismantle the “Golden Road” aspirations of these four teams. While undoubtedly a daunting task, T1 has demonstrated similar prowess in the past, having defeated Gen.G at MSI 2023 and JD Gaming in the Worlds 2023 semifinals. Therefore, while challenging, achieving this feat is not entirely out of the realm of possibility for T1.
Ending the Losing Streak Against Gen.G
Since MSI 2023, T1 has been unable to secure a single victory over Gen.G, both domestically and internationally. While Gen.G continuously adapts their roster and meticulously analyzes T1, the repeated losses to their direct title contenders remain a source of frustration for fans and analysts alike.
Therefore, a triumph at MSI 2024 would instantly silence the doubts and criticisms surrounding T1. Additionally, it would put an end to their losing streak against the reigning LCK champions and establish a strong foundation heading into the Summer Split.
First Team to Win MSI After Defeating All Major Region #1 Seeds
This achievement would be a groundbreaking accomplishment in League of Legends history. No team has ever managed this feat since MSI’s inception. From a certain perspective, winning MSI this year could hold equal weight to their Worlds 2023 victory. Although T1 conquered all four LPL representatives at Worlds 2023, only JD Gaming posed a significant threat. No other LPL team managed to claim a single game against Faker and his teammates.
Furthermore, both Team Liquid and G2 have displayed renewed confidence. They recently snapped their losing streaks against their regional rivals. In their upcoming rematch, both TL and G2 will be hungry for revenge against T1. Every victory T1 earns from here on out, not just against Gen.G or Bilibili Gaming, will further electrify the League of Legends community.
