However, there’s another game, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, that, despite receiving positive acclaim worldwide, has been deemed a “commercial failure” and left in the shadows by its own publisher.

Debuting in 2010, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective had a solitary release and faced numerous serious issues in both its launch and development phases. The game revolves around Sissel, a memory-lacking supernatural spirit, and players must solve puzzles and interact with peculiar characters to help Sissel reclaim his identity, preventing his impending demise by manipulating time and tackling intricate challenges.
Capcom’s Official Decision to Cease Publication
Capcom recently announced the official cessation of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective’s publication, effective March 25, 2024. This decision, not entirely surprising, follows the game’s repeated struggles, particularly on iOS, with updates for new versions and bug fixes. However, Capcom promises to reintroduce the game with an HD remastered version—a new and improved edition with significant graphics enhancements compared to the original.
Retirement for a Veteran: Ghost Trick’s iOS Journey
After nearly 14 years on iOS, it’s apparent that a “veteran” like Ghost Trick needs a break and a fresh look. Capcom’s decision to cease publication can be seen as a sensible and fitting choice to “rescue” the game at this juncture. Post-March 25, 2024, Ghost Trick will no longer be available on the App Store. Existing owners may encounter restricted access to some content, but those who’ve downloaded it before can still find it on the store for further enjoyment.
Unfortunate Data Transition: A Farewell to Old Player Data
Regrettably, player data from the old version won’t be supported for transition to the new one (if released). Therefore, until the cessation announcement takes effect, interested gamers can download Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective to experience it before this version permanently “fades away.”
